Silicone adhesives for scars such as gels or sheets are an effective first step in scar treatment, these can be used as soon as the wound has healed over and on ‘over-active’ scarring. Silicone products aim to keep the scar moisturised and offers a protective layer.  

For optimum results gels and sheets should be used continuously for at least three months. How often do I need to use silicone? 

Silicone gel or spray for scars should be applied frequently for a period time, typically 2-3 times a day for at least three months to see improvement. Silicone sheets can be worn continuously for 24-48 hours depending on the brand and most are water resistant.  


When should you start using silicone products on a scar? 

As soon as your wound has healed over and any bleeding or scabbing has stopped, you can begin using silicone adhesives for scars.
